The trips section is the hardest part of the citizenship application. List your trips here once. We'll count your days, check the time rules, and give you a table that's ready to copy onto Form N-400.

Please read: This is a free self-help tool. It is not a government website and is not connected to USCIS. It does not give legal advice. Your answers stay on this device only.

Step 1 – Your time window

The application asks about trips in the last 5 years (or 3 years if you're applying as the spouse of a U.S. citizen).

How are you applying?
Leave blank to use today.
"Resident Since" on your card.

Step 2 – Get your records (free)

Don't guess. Use these to find your real dates.

Where to find your trip dates

  • CBP travel history (free): go to i94.cbp.dhs.gov and choose "Get Travel History." It lists your U.S. arrivals and departures for about the last 10 years.
  • Your passport stamps (old and new passports).
  • Airline emails, boarding passes, and credit card statements.
CBP records are sometimes missing trips, especially by land to Canada or Mexico. Check them against your passport.
Copy the table from the CBP website and paste it. We'll try to match each departure with the next arrival. Always check the result.

Step 3 – Your trips

List every trip outside the U.S. that lasted more than 24 hours. Newest first is easiest.

Step 4 – Your results

We count the day you left and the day you came back as days in the U.S.
